If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled, or composted, then it should be restricted, designed or removed from production.

Give away CDs and DVDs

Charity shops often accept CDs and DVDs for re-sale.

These discs are accepted at some local recycling centres but this service does vary across the country. It's best to check with your local council.

Another option is to give them away on Freecycle, and Freegle.

There are lots of websites where you can turn your old and unwanted CDs, DVDs and games into cash in one free and simple process. You can check your items potential value on the website and you can even donate the procedes to a number of well know charities. Some of the best-known are Music Magpie, Zapper and Ziffit.

Be sure to set a date when the items have to go otherwise you may find they are still sat there after a few years!

Cassettes and VHS tapes

In most local council areas videotapes cannot be put in your recycling bin because of the chemical content found on the tape itself, and even some recycling centres will not accept them. Always check ahead with your local waste centre to see if they can advise further.
